When do you generally book sessions?
I love to do sessions when the lighting outside is in that beautiful golden hour. That means just after sunrise and before sunset. Most of my clients will book outdoor sessions weekend mornings and in the evenings between 5 and 8 pm depending on the time of year. However, I have to work around a lot of schedules, so I am experienced in doing photography sessions in the rain and bright sun. Indoor newborn sessions in the winter can be any time of the day, but summer newborn sessions in the wildflowers are my favorite.
I have several young kids. Is it possible to get a good session with lots of photos and have a session be worth it?
Yes! I have families ask me this all the time. Every session I have ever done thus far has been great no matter how many small children there are! Some parents worry that they have to book a long session to get enough “good shots” or worry that their kids won’t behave. Sessions are meant to be fun and they are! I love candid shots and will get shots of your kids even if they are running away from you, crying, or not posing “perfectly”. Candid shots are personally my favorite. If I do have a session where children are tired, crying or being difficult, I generally extend those sessions if needed to get all of my shots. If I know your kid likes to run, I will chose spots that have wide open fields, away from roads and other hazards (just in case). I have 5 kids, so I’m well aware of how difficult little kids can be with photoshoots.
Do you charge a travel fee?
I do if the location is far away. I’m a busy mom with 5 kids so driving far for a photoshoot means more time away from family and possibly needing babysitters. Traveling an hour or two on top of the actual photo session adds up. I also book many sessions back to back, so traveling could be taking out an entire time slot or 2 that would have otherwise been full photo sessions. This is especially true during my busy fall season where I may have 3 or 4 sessions on the same day.
I have to charge a travel fee, as it’s extra time, money and energy to go outside of all the closer areas I shoot. I charge based off of how far the location is and how much extra time it takes to travel round trip. That means the fee will be different depending on location. I am located in the Tri-Cities area of Washington. Message me if you are outside of that area or have a specific location you want your photos.
I would love to get photos, but I don’t have the budget for it right now. What do I do?
Send me an email or a direct message. I work with many clients who are in school or are young couples just starting out. I totally get it! Message me and we can talk about what you want, what I offer, and how to afford a session.
Do you do any retouching?
I have done photography enough years that I know some photoshop. The goal is to get all the good shots in a photo session, but sometimes kids just don’t look at the camera. You can talk to me about specific images from a photoshoot and retouching may be possible if you’re not asking for anything crazy. I can retouch spots on clothing, hair, and may be able to change details like faces. But it’s not for every image and every person, as that would be so much work!
